The Sharpener's Road

A man finds a blade in his father's attic and has nowhere to take it. The trade has no centre — no roll of honest hands who sharpen, lift rust, re-haft and re-scabbard real steel. This is the beginning of one. Every house on this Road has petitioned, been read, and sworn the oaths below. Warborn will not fill a public roll with names that never asked to be on it, so until houses petition, the Road stands honestly empty and says so.

The Road

No house is seated on the Road yet. The first to petition and be read will be the first name a collector in this country is given when they ask who can save a blade.

The oaths

  • Quote before you cut. No hand learns the price after the work is done.
  • Return the piece no worse. If it cannot be mended, say so and send it home unbilled.
  • Bear the Dragon Seal honestly — the mark only, never our name upon your goods.
  • Refuse work on stolen steel and on any blade whose holder cannot say how it came to them.
  • No edged steel to a minor. Not sharpened, not returned, not shipped.

A sealed house bears the Dragon Seal — the mark only, never our name upon their goods — and is paid 8% on any steel they send home to this house.

Crafts

Still wanted: the house's name, where you are seated, a public way to reach you, a few honest words about your work, the oaths, sworn.
